We started by assessing TTRPGs from a fan's perspective, then from the stranger's, and now we're leaving TTRPGs behind and individually defining our own LIS10 goals!
Knowing yourself, identifying why you actually want to do something isn't an easy thing.
So this week we're going to turn inward and probe at that creative fire, stoke it a little, and come to understand ourselves a little better.
Last time we discussed preconceptions, primarily from the perspective of someone already familiar with TTRPGs.
Today we're re-approaching TTRPGs from the opposite perspective, the stranger, someone who has no knowledge of TTRPGs, and is innocently coming into LIS10 without any understanding of what Live Interactive Storytelling actually involves.
If you're completely fresh to LIS10, this is the article to understand the appeal of this TTRPG thing.
However, if you already know it well, this is still an important topic for you to work through to improve your communication and empathy when trying to welcome someone less experienced into your favourite creative hobby!
Goal: To identify your preconceptions of TTRPGs, and to distinguish your enjoyment from your expectations.
Starting something new, having no prior knowledge and being able to learn everything from scratch, is a wonderful place to be.
It's exciting, it’s all still ahead of you, and there are so many possibilities that you can't wait to explore!
And if that describes you, then maybe you can move straight on to Lesson 2!
You're probably wondering what's coming up and where to start, especially if you're here early!
Thank you so much for your support! And welcome to Live Interactive Storytelling!
I started making these D&D videos to try and lower the barrier of entry for those interested but intimidated by what were being held up as the “gold standard” of how the game should be played. I also wanted to demonstrate that there are always more ways to solve every problem, and that no one specific gameplay style , or way or doing things is more correct than any other.
If you haven’t seen any of these before, there are a few categories that might help you narrow your interest…

This is perhaps the most obvious staple of LIS10 and TTRPGs, other than the storytelling itself, is the moment of challenge, an opportunity for something to succeed or fail.
But before we start throwing numbers around and creating systems, let's try to understand what problems these challenges exist to solve. That way we can determine whether or not they're the best solution for our purposes.
